Writer and Communications Manager - Washington Kastles (Washington, DC)

Job Description

Direct and execute all of the communications efforts of the Washington Kastles. This includes all fan communications, website, email blasts, social media and media relations. This position will also provide support to other departments outside of the team’s season, including marketing, sponsorship and sales.

Required Experience

Candidate must have significant experience writing substantive articles about tennis teams, tours, tournaments or other tennis events for professional or collegiate organizations, and provide writing samples to that effect. No applications will be considered without this experience, no exceptions will be made. Candidate must have a proven track record of self-motivation and working independently and the ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit all Kastles communications, including press releases, website content, social media content, public address announcements, letters to season ticket holders, sponsors and VIPs, and marketing communications.
  • Maintain the website and social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram including the creation and posting of original content.
  • Prepare and send out regular email blasts using Constant Contact throughout the year. Including daily match reports during the season, which should be researched ahead of time.
  • Provide regular reports on website traffic, social media reach and results of email blasts.
  • Attend local events and represent the Kastles in the Community as part of the team’s grassroots marketing efforts.
  • Assist marketing department with various tasks including managing, inventory and sales of merchandise.
  • Assist sponsorship department with creation of presentations and other sponsor material.
  • Assist ticketing and sales with season ticket renewals, including crafting team’s renewal letters and eblasts, as well as both inbound and outbound phone calls in the offseason.
  • Assist with or lead a variety of tasks in the offseason that may fall well outside the general duties of this position, and otherwise contributing to the success of an organization which maintains a small offseason staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Owner and Senior Management of the Washington Kastles.

The full-time position will begin immediately, dependent on the candidate. Significant weekend and evening hours will also be required periodically throughout the off-season but regularly during the Kastles season, including attendance at all Kastles home matches. Compensation range is $30,000-$40,000/year and will be commensurate with professional experience. All employees must provide their own computers for use when working with the Washington Kastles.

2017 Community Relations Coordinator - Washington Kastles (Washington, DC)

Job Description
Oversee all charity events and the volunteer program of the Washington Kastles prior to and during the season. Organize recruiting events for volunteers, coordinate community activities and attend local events representing the Washington Kastles to the community. Reports to the Marketing Director.

Desired Experience
Candidate should have background recruiting and managing staff, as well as experience in community relations. Strong organizational skills are a must. Sports and/or tennis background a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Kastles Kids Clinics run by coaches and players.
  • Coordinate visiting charity groups at team matches for in-game events, including Kastles Kids Tunnel, on-court promotions, etc.
  • Coordinate with charitable partners to allocate the appropriate number of match tickets for each charity for every match.
  • Research and attend tennis/community related events.
  • Manage charity event database and fulfill and track charity requests.
  • Host recruiting events within the community to attract qualified volunteer candidates.
  • Act as a single point of contact for all communications with volunteers.
  • Recruit, hire and manage all volunteer positions.
  • Responsible for ordering and providing volunteer food, shirts, water etc.
  • Organize and assist with executing the distribution of all credentials for the Kastles, including those for players, staff and VIPs.
  • Attend local events and represent the Kastles in the community as part of the Kastles grassroots marketing efforts.
  • Assist with stadium setup and teardown on all match days.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Marketing Director and the executive management of the Washington Kastles.

Seasonal position will begin in early to mid May, depending on the candidate’s availability, and end on August 11. All seasonal positions require a full-time commitment during business hours. Significant weekend and evening hours will also be required, including attendance at all Kastles home matches. Compensation is $525/week on a contract basis.

All seasonal employees must provide their own computers for use when working with the Washington Kastles.
