Position:
Facilities and Operations Intern for On-Court Supervision

Position Overview:
This position will act as the on-court liaison between Chair Umpires and the Facilities Office. Responsible for handling all on court issues and ensuring that each individual court is stocked and prepared in accordance with tournament guidelines.

Position Objectives:
To provide outstanding service and tournament facilities for our fans, players, officials, contractors, exhibitors, vendors, sponsors, volunteers and staff.

Position Timeline:
Internship will begin on July 20th and run through August 23rd. Start and end dates can be extended slightly to satisfy additional academic requirements. Interns must be able to work all days during internship unless approval is granted prior to acceptance of the offer.

Working Hours:
Prior to the tournament the workday will generally begin at 9am and end at 5pm. This position is task driven and occasional projects may require extended hours to conclude. During the tournament a schedule will be developed based on availability to ensure that the courts are properly staffed from 7am until the end of play and court washing into the early morning.

Team:
This position will be part of a team consisting of 30-35 interns staffing all the courts. This group will report to one of three full time interns overseeing all courts and matchplay.

Pre-Tournament Duties:
 Assist in preparing the facility through the following projects:
• Painting
• Pressure washing
• Fence repair/install
• Weed removal
• Windscreen and vinyl replacement
• Preparation and maintenance of interior space
• Inventory management
• Placement and distribution of light towers
• Maintaining high levels of cleanliness
• Minor seating and stadium repair
• Preparation of interior spaces
• Assist other facilities interns in preparing their areas

Learn procedures and protocols in the following areas:
• Net assembly
• ATP/WTA guidelines
• Microphone operation
• Recognition of specific players
• Court layout
• Sponsor requirements
• Court drying
• Court washing
• Anticipating player needs
• Inventory management

Participate in group projects as directed by Management.

Assist volunteers and chairpersons in preparing their areas for the tournaments.

Tournament Duties
  Work knowledgeably on one or all of the following teams:
     • Court runner
     • Net change team
     • Court monitor
• Prepare courts for matches each day.
• Stock courts with supplies for players, umpires, camera crews and other personnel.
• Quickly solve any on court problems at the discretion of the chair umpire.
• Communicate with Operations Dispatcher to update scores, request product needs, and provide general match progression.
• Act as first responder to any issues that may arise on court.
• Tend to the needs of players on court
• Ensure that all on court sponsor material is appropriately placed
• Monitor on court security and notify marshals of any potential threats
• Communicate and work with chair umpire and lines people on each court
• Contribute to the changing of nets and on-court signage procedures
• Lead court drying procedure in the event of rain.
• Complete quality control checklists for Player Security and Public Space interns.
• Support coworkers in the cleaning of match courts each night.
• Photograph assigned areas for documentation purposes.
• Assist in the completion of quality control surveys.
• Make recommendations to improve the position and the tournament from year to year.

This is an unpaid internship designed for course credit and/or to build experience for candidates as they assist in assembling one of the finest tennis events in the world. Reimbursement for travel or other funding is not available.

Position Overview:
This position will respond to and coordinate all incoming Facilities/Operations requests and direct individuals to the appropriate resource or satisfy the request immediately.

Position Objectives:
To provide outstanding service and tournament facilities for our fans, players, officials, contractors, exhibitors, vendors, sponsors, volunteers and staff.

• Serve as the first responder to the wide variety of requests that are made to the Facilities/Operations Office.
• Manage the Facilities/Operations Office and serve as liaison to this area.
• Think critically and make decisions with a high level of autonomy based on what you believe to be the best course of action.
• Maintain a detailed log of all communication, requests, rentals, repairs, etc and follow up with groups to ensure that all needs are met.
• Process systems for key sign in/out, equipment usage logs, intern dining, laundry procedures, etc.
• Work closely with contractors on site to provide clear communication and efficient response times to all areas of the tournament.
• Monitor and coordinate the needs of all on-court interns and assign tasks to available team members.
• Assemble a comprehensive picture inventory including all details of all parts of the tournament site.
• Assign tasks to available interns to provide the best service for our patrons.
• Assist with sign in/out of radios and troubleshooting as needed.
• Monitor calls on Security Channel
• Record all calls and assign a severity level to each
• Relay information on calls of severity level one or two to management
• Follow up with Security calls shortly after to ensure that the conflict is resolved.
• Finalize a report of all security calls.
• Highlight any outstanding issues to be resolved.
• Forward this report to management at the end of your shift.
• Assist other facilities interns in preparing their areas.
• Complete checklists for player security and public space interns.
• Provide the highest level customer service to everyone calling or coming into the Facility Operations Office
• Finalize a report of all calls to the Facility Operations Office
• Highlight any outstanding issues to be resolved.
• Forward this report to management at the end of your shift.
• Support coworkers in the cleaning of match courts each night.

Position:
Facilities and Operations Intern for Player Security

Position Overview:
This position will tend to the overall security needs of all tennis players on site. Responsibilities include escorting players to/from their assigned courts, crowd control, Player Center access control, and contributing to the wellbeing of players at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Position Objectives:
To provide outstanding service and tournament facilities for our fans, players, officials, contractors, exhibitors, vendors, sponsors, volunteers and staff.

Position Timeline:
Internship will begin on August 3rd and run through August 23rd. Start and end dates can be extended to satisfy additional academic requirements. Interns must be able to work all days during internship unless approval is granted prior to acceptance of the offer.

During the tournament a schedule will be developed based on availability to ensure that all posts are properly staffed from 7am until the last player has departed the facility.

Team:
This position will be part of a team consisting of 20-25 interns staffing all security positions. This group will report to the full time Intern overseeing Player Security.

Pre-Tournament Duties:
• Assist in preparing the facility through the following projects:
    • Painting
    • Pressure washing
    • Fence repair/install
    • Weed removal
    • Windscreen and vinyl replacement
     • Preparation and maintenance of interior space
     • Inventory management
     • Placement and distribution of light towers
     • Maintaining high levels of cleanliness
• Learn top player names and faces to recognize and properly greet upon arrival.
• Complete training on access policies, conflict resolution, customer service, safety, and critical thinking.
• Learn all transportation routes and develop contingency plans to escort players safely and efficiently.
• Participate in group projects as directed by the Director of Facilities.
• Assist volunteers and chairpersons in preparing their areas for the tournaments.
• Assist other facilities interns in preparing their areas.


Tournament Duties
• Check individual credentials and provide access control at various secure locations throughout the Paul Flory Player Center.
• Use proper scenarios, including their names, when asking players to show their credentials.
• Greet all individuals with a smile and direct eye contact when asking for their credential, suite pass or ticket.
• Serve as a tournament authority to transport players to/from courts in a safe, friendly, and efficient manner.
• Monitor daily practice/match schedule with Player Services desk.
• Assist in secure escorts to / from ESPN Game Day Desk, autograph sessions, special events and player appearances as directed by the Player Security Managers.
• Work with private security firm to coordinate daily logistics.
• Interface with Mason Police Department, Player Security Managers, ATP/WTA Director of Security, and Tournament Marshals as needed for planning or daily operations.
• Think critically to mitigate risk and provide the best service to players.
• Anticipate the needs of players and accommodate as needed.
• Complete security audit checklists of interior and exterior space.
• Assist in the completion of quality control surveys.
• Support coworkers in the cleaning of match courts each night.
• Photograph assigned areas for documentation purposes.
• Make recommendations to improve the position and the tournament from year to year.
