Description:

Rare internship opportunity to assist in running one of the world’s premier professional men’s and women’s tennis events.  Each intern is given enormous responsibility which offers great preparation and experience for future endeavors.

Location:

All facility/ operation positions will work entirely from the tournament site located at 5460 Courseview Dr., Mason, Ohio, 45040.  

Dates:

Internships begin and end based on the individual needs of each area.  Minimum requirement is a start date of July 17th and ending date of August 20th.  Length of internship can be extended to meet additional academic requirements of a student.

Qualifications:

Willingness, with a smile, to do whatever it takes to run the very best tournament possible.  Strong desire to learn and work hard.  You must be able to work at least through August 20th to be considered for any of these internships.  Phone interview will be required of all candidates.

2017 Ticketing Internship - Tournament Week Volunteer - Western & Southern Open (Mason, OH)

Description:

Dates:

 Interns will be asked to work the week of the tournament. 

Tournament dates – August 12 -20, 2017

 Qualifications and Responsibilities:           

  • Willingness, with a smile, to do whatever it takes to run the very best tournaments possible. 
  • Interns will be trained on Ticketmaster/Archtics software (utilized in many sports venues across the country) and will be responsible for all aspects of tournament patron relations, including accepting and processing patron ticket orders via phone, in person at the ticket sales windows during the event, working with patrons who are picking up tickets at our Will Call windows, assisting in directing patrons outside the ticket office to the proper area for prompt assistance, and the like. 
  • The ability to communicate via phone and in person in a professional manner  
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic accounting skills, as interns are responsible for balancing ticket sales/income each day

 Normal Hours:

During the tournament, the ticket office is open from 8am-9pm each day; with a future sales window inside the gates being open from noon-evening match conclusion (approximately 11pm).  Daily 8-10 hour shifts are expected.

Dress:

The tournament will provide a tournament logo shirt and cap.  Interns must provide their own khaki shorts, skirt or slacks to compliment the uniform.  Parking in a private lot also included. 

These internships are unpaid.

2017 Volunteer / Special Events / F & B Intern

This is an unpaid internship designed for course credit and/or to build experience for candidates as they assist in coordinating one of the finest tennis events in the world.  Reimbursement for travel or other funding is not available.

Reports to: Director of Volunteers

Qualifications:

Position Overview:

This internship provides you with the opportunity to work for one of the largest and most prestigious professional tennis tournaments in the world.  This is a chance to learn the inner workings of this event and to view the tournament from numerous areas through the 33 different volunteer committees that you will work with.

This internship is one of a customer service specialist, and requires the ability to communicate with all types of personalities and ages of volunteers.  The successful candidate will need to show initiative and be able to assess situations, be creative in developing a solution and follow through to completion.  This candidate must always be positive in their approach to motivate and support the tournament’s volunteer team (1300) to provide the patrons at our event with the best possible experience.

Internship Duties (May include but not limited to the following):

  • Learn the volunteer registration system (Trust Event Solutions) and help with the registration process and committee assignments for over 1300+ volunteers.
  • Provide prompt and clear communication with potential and past volunteers.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the volunteer committee chairpersons.
  • Work directly with the Food & Beverage Committee to monitor food inventories and help with distribution of goods to various areas of the tournament.  Update excel document with distribution amounts.  Be the primary support to the Chairperson of the F & B Committee.  This responsibility does include some lifting of product.
    • F & B - Prepare document highlighting special event responsibilities (i.e. Kid’s Day, High School Day, VIP, Pro Am events…) and follow through with execution.
  • Help with the set-up of the Volunteer Office at the tournament site.
  • All interns will assist with answering the phone and staffing of the Volunteer Office.
  • Learn the credentialing software, Archtics and help to create the volunteer credentials.
  • Assist in preparing materials for volunteer use during the tournament.
  • Help with the assembly of the volunteer uniform packets.
  • Gather information and prepare the Volunteer Benefit Level binder and monitor awards earned by volunteers.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the Volunteer Party (credential and uniform distribution to over 800 volunteers).  Help to train those working this event (other tournament interns and volunteers).
  • Manage and post daily communications in the Volunteer Lounge during the tournament.
  • Set up and manage the daily volunteer raffles.
  • Pull various volunteer reports through Archtics and Trust Event Solutions (volunteer systems).
  • Ability to work independently and stay productive.
  • Take tournament apparel inventories towards the end of the tournament.
  • Patience and a pleasant speaking voice to accept phone calls and in working with volunteers on site during the tournament.

Partnership Sales Manager - Western & Southern Open (Cincinnati, OH)

Sales / Business Development Manager (Cincinnati, OH)

Job Title: Partnership Sales Manager  
Department: Sales 
Reports to: Director of Business Development

Summary:

The Partnership Sales Manager will report to and support the Director of Business Development in overall sales efforts for the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, OH, one of the largest professional tennis tournaments in the world.

Duties will include: Sales of VIP and Premium seating, hospitality and suites; sponsorship sales, including the identification and packaging of new assets within the event and facility; and development of sales strategies.  

Additional duties will also include, but are not limited to: developing creative concepts; developing sales pitch/presentation materials; research and ideation; pro-forma development and support sponsor servicing when required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Sponsorship, hospitality & suite sales.
  • Research and identify new prospects and potential sponsors (Focus on outlying regions, i.e. Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, Detroit, Chicago, etc)
  • Work with the marketing team to create partnership presentations, proposals and other materials to generate new revenue 
  • Assist Sr. Partnership Manager in optimizing the goals of tournament partners
  • Manage and provide appropriate research/analytical data for business development efforts
  • Work with Sr. Partnership Manager to manage timelines & asset submissions
  • Ability to interface with multiple departments (i.e. marketing, finance, facilities, ticketing, operations, volunteers etc.) and effectively provide integrated solutions for potential and existing sponsors
  • Work with the Sr. Partnership manager to enhance current partnership activation and programs, identify new net revenue opportunities, and provide additional value for the partnerships 
  • Assist in the partner renewal process by understanding current sponsor business objective to generate maximum ROI and results
  • Identify current trends in the industry and incorporate these ideas and concepts into new and existing partnership proposals
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Business Development or Sr. Partnership Manager

Desired skills and background:

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, business administration or related field
  • A minimum of 2 - 5 years previous experience in sales, sponsorship, brand marketing, or account management
  • Experience in business development or marketing in sports/entertainment is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (written & presentation) 
  • Creative and innovative thinker 
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team yet self-motivated and can work independently
  • Must be outstanding in ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and priorities
  • High level of professionalism
  • Experience with creative software (Adobe) is a plus
